Full Text Formatting Guideline (Word document)

 

Deadline for Submitting Final Papers: September 15th, 2015.

 

ONLY the papers formatted according to the guideline “International Symposium on Sakarya from Past to Present Writing Manual” will be accepted.

 

Please submit an electronic version of your paper in A4 size, formatted in Microsoft Word via e-mail (sakaryasempozyumu@sakarya.edu.tr). Documents created in other formats (i.e. PDF file) will not be accepted. The full text (including footnotes, bibliography, figures, tables, maps, charts etc.) should not be more than 4500 words.

 

Main Text: Your paper should be typed in Microsoft Word using 12 pt Times New Roman font with 1.5 cm line spaces. The text should be justified with 1 inch or 2.5 cm margins. All paragraphs should be intended with 1.5 cm and there should be 12 pt (one line) spaces between the paragraphs.

 

Main Title: Please use 14 pt bold Times New Roman font and all capital. It should be centre aligned.

 

Subheading/SUBTITLE: If applicable; it should be left aligned in 12 pt bold Times New Roman font with all capital letters.

 

Author’s name and last name: It should be center aligned under the main title with 12 pt bold Times New Roman font. First letter of each word needed to be capitalized.

 

Academic affiliation and author’s e-mail address: If applicable; having the first letter of each word capitalized, please type all the information with 12 pt bold Times New Roman font in brackets, centre aligned below the name and surname of author.

 

Figures, tables, maps, charts and other visuals: If applicable; each visual should be center-aligned within the text. Height of image could not be more than 10cm. As for its width, it shall be aligned with the text at most. Each visual must have a figure number and a title which will be written below the image in 10 pt bold Times New Roman. A brief description of visual (if applicaple) should be justified below its title with 1 inch or 2.5 cm margins and typed in 10pt Times New Roman font with one line space. Captions must be clear enough to allow understanding of the image without referring to the text. High definition formats of the images also should be sent separately via e-mail.

 

Abstract: Abstract, which could be at most 300-400 words, needs to be justified above the full text and to be written with 10 pt Times New Roman font in English.

 

Keywords: Please provide us with a maximum of 5 keywords below the abstract. Your keywords should be aligned on the left and typed in 10 pt Times New Roman font.

 

Paragraphs: Paragraphs should be intended from the left with 1.5 cm and there should be 12 pt (one line) spaces between the paragraphs.

 

Quotations: The quotations shorter than three lines should be italicized and be given in quotation marks. Those of 50 or more words should be indented 1.5 cm from the left as a separate block of text and justified with the use of 10 pt Times New Roman font without italicization and quotation marks.

 

Footnotes:

 

1) They needed to be typed in 10 pt Times New Roman with 1.15 cm line space and to be justified. (The source of the citation has to be included in the bibliography.)

 

2) If multiple citations contained in a single footnote, the sources should be separated by semi-colon.

 

For example:

 

BOA, I.DH., 290/18222; Daniel Mendelsohn, “But Enough about Me,” New Yorker, January 25, 2010, p. 68.

 

3)While indicating the range of pages in the footnotes, the precise page numbers has to be given and dash (- ) should be used (not em dash) between the numbers.

 

For example: Muammer Ýskenderođlu, Fakhr al-Dîn al- Râzî and Thomas Aquinas on the Question of the Eternity of the World, (Leiden: E. J. Brill, 2002), p. 237-290. (not as 237-70).

 

Bibliography: Your main text has to include a bibliography and footnote format, not endnote format, has to be used for citation throughout the text. You should type the footnotes and the bibliography in keeping with “ICOS Writing Manual.”

 

Punctuation: Except for special cases, only one space should be use after punctuations. The punctuation marks such as comma, period etc. have to be placed inside quotation marks.
